Review – One Step From Eden Demo

Hey! Do you like fast-paced action, cool pixel art, or rogue-like games? Alright, so let’s get a bit more specific. Do you like spell-slinging combo-based combat, deck-building games, or Mega Man Battle Network? Okay, that’s really specific… One Step From Eden is a fast-paced deckbuilding roguelike game with real-time grid combat, inspired by the likes of Mega Man Battle Network, Slay the Spire, and Faster than Light. It’s a game currently in development by Thomas Moon Kang, @thomasmoonkang on twitter. Thomas has released a free demo for One Step From Eden on itch.io, which can be found here.   In…

Shoutout – DON’T GIVE UP: A Cynical Tale

Don’t Give Up: A Cynical Tale is a quirky turn-based roleplaying game in the vein of Earthbound or Undertale, but with a slightly darker twist to it. You play as Tris, an anti-social game developer, on his quest to deal with mental illness and live life despite many strange circumstances and strange people conspiring against him. Travel with Tris through the town of Threeson and its many off-the-wall denizens. Battle against the phantoms of your inner conscious and jerks who smack the pizza out of your hands. Get your life back on track and manage your demons while making a…

Review – Hollow Knight

This week’s review is a 2D hack and slash adventure game through the ruins of a once-great city, from the fine people at Team Cherry. But be careful while playing, you may encounter a lot of bugs. It’s Hollow Knight, let’s go! Hollow Knight is a game where you play as a little masked knight, who has traveled far to reach the fabled subterranean city of Hallownest, now a decrepit shell of its former self. With your trusty nail in hand, venture forth into the shadowy ruins of the metropolis below the surface. Face off against all manner of insects,…

Update: Bashteroids

Update! New stuff! Yes, it’s been a while, but I’m still working on Bashteroids. In an effort to continue adding to the difficulty of the game, we have some changes. To bring the shield power-up more in line with the effectiveness of the health power-up, the number of hits the shield can take has been reduced from three to two. This is so that the health power-up, which can restore up to three hits, is not overshadowed by the shield, which could also take three hits and could be stacked. With this minor change comes a more major change: Boss…

Update: Bashteroids!

Hey guys! Guess what? Bashteroids has an update! Beyond some minor fixes (when pickups spawn, sprite color changes), there are two new major changes! Starting at level 15, a new asteroid can appear for destruction, the phase-teroid. The phase-teroid is an asteroid composed of rocky materials along with an unheard-of element, which causes it to shift in and out of this reality, only identifiable by the dark spot it leaves behind. Along with this new asteroid, there is a new enemy. Another in the line-up for the space bees, it is the split shot bee! This orange insectoid can fire…

Review: Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt

In addition to making games, I also want to talk about games here. To start things off, I want to talk about a little indie title by the name of Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt. Here we go!   Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt is a free game on Steam by Ludosity. It was first made for the Ebola charity game jam in 2014 and has since been updated for its full release. It follows the story of the titular Princess Remedy, a Saturnian who has just graduated from healing school, sent to Hurtland to heal…
